Behind every intricate workflow or overengineered interface, there is a basic task. Somebody is trying to get something done. For the user, the task is relatively simple. It's tragic that the tools they're given are anything but.

For me, user experience is about unraveling complexity and exposing the simplicity underneath. I've spent 10 years getting my hands dirty at the whiteboard to make some of the most elaborate processes feel transparent and obvious to the users who need to work with them.

  • multi-party financial advice
  • private equity investment workflow
  • pharmaceutical development and evaluation
  • employee performance assessment and compensation
  • clinical trial preparation and submission
  • digital rights management
  • loan data reconciliation
  • health maintenance
  • security entitlements management

To work in these environments takes not only good usability sense, but the ability to guide intelligent compromises, to lead consensus-building efforts, educate stakeholders in the user experience process, and to advocate for the end user.
